Joan Clarke (1917–1996) was a gifted British mathematician and codebreaker who played a key role at Bletchley Park during World War II. As one of the few women working alongside Alan Turing, she helped break the German naval Enigma codes, saving countless lives. Despite facing gender-based barriers, Clarke rose to deputy head of Hut 8 and later earned acclaim as a numismatics expert.
